Steering Torque Control

Component PDF:

This system acts as the link between the stability control and electric steering controllers. The technology has three main functions: oversteer control; split-mu control; and agility control. During a split-mu situation (where there are two very different surfaces, such as ice and dry roadway or grass and roadway), ABS and ESC work with the steering system to help maintain vehicle stability. In an oversteer situation, steering torque is generated to encourage the driver to countersteer and ultimately respond to vehicle yaw in the most controlled fashion. The improvement in stopping distances through the use of the technology is up to 8%.
