Automatic Emergency Braking
Component PDF:
This system triggers automatic braking in an emergency situation. It comprises a mid- or long-range radar system, and a forward-facing video camera that is fitted behind the windscreen. The camera and radar work with the vehicle’s braking systems to help bring vehicles to a rapid stop.

The radar and video camera sense closing vehicles and the "time to collision" (TTC) is calculated which is the bases to trigger the AEB functionality. Drivers are alerted of hazards by audible or visual warnings, or by haptic feedback through a brake jerk. If the driver does not react on the provided warnings, automatic braking force is applied to avoid (at low relative velocity) or mitigate the impact.
